Sound familiar?

You want to feel strong in your body again.

I see the same few things over and over with the everyday adults I work with. If any of these are you, you're not alone, and none of it is permanent.

  • You feel weaker and stiffer than you used to, and it's creeping into everyday life.
  • Little aches and tweaks keep flaring up and holding you back.
  • You know you should strength train, but the gym feels intimidating or you don't know where to start.
  • You've tried programs and apps that never really stuck.
  • You want to stay strong, steady, and independent as you get older.
  • You're busy, and working out keeps sliding to the bottom of the list.

Here's the good news. This isn't about talent. It comes down to strength and fueling, and I can help you fix both.

  • Stay strong as you age

We train for the long haul so you keep doing what you love, on your own terms, for years.

  • Fit it into a real week

Two focused sessions, built around your schedule instead of taking it over.

Train with me in Arlington

Most of the people I coach in person are in their 40s, 50s, and up, and we're working on the same things, getting stronger, staying healthy for the long haul, and feeling more confident in your own body. I also love coaching high-school athletes. We train together in my private studio in Arlington.

Coach me online

This is for runners and cyclists who want to add strength training and finally dial in their fueling. A lot of endurance athletes never touch the gym, and it's the thing holding them back. I figure this stuff out on my own long runs, so I give you programming, a race-day fueling plan, and check-ins to keep you moving forward wherever you train.

  • Strength built around your miles, not bodybuilding
  • A race-day fueling plan that actually holds up
  • Programming and check-ins, coached remotely
Train. Fuel. Race.

From the studio in Arlington to the start line of 200-mile ultras. What I coach, I'm living.

A little about me

Hi, I'm Tarah.

I'm a personal trainer and certified nutritionist in Arlington, and I'm an ultra trail runner. I ran my first 100K this spring, I'm racing the Silver Rush 50 in Leadville in July, and I'm training for the Moab 240 in October. So I know what it takes to get strong and fuel right, because I'm doing it too.

Most of the people I coach aren't chasing 200 miles. They're runners who want to start lifting, and folks in their 40s, 50s, and up who want to feel strong, move well, and stay that way for a long time. I meet you where you are and build from there, backed by the science. Whatever your goal, I'll help you get there.

No pressure, no risk

Let's just talk first.

We start with a free intro call. Tell me where you're at, what you're working toward, and what's been getting in the way. You walk away with a real plan, whether that's racing stronger, getting fitter at 50, or just feeling more confident. No contract, no pressure. If we're a fit, we'll go from there.

FAQ

A few things I get asked a lot.

Don't see your question here? Book the free intro call and ask me. I'll give you a straight answer.

Will lifting make me slower or bulky?

Real talk, no. The strength work I give endurance athletes is heavy and low-rep, built for force, not size. Most people end up holding the same paces at a lower effort. Getting bulky takes a ton of volume and a big calorie surplus, which is the opposite of how you train and eat.

I'm a runner who hates the gym. Can you still help?

That's honestly who I love working with. I'm a runner too, so I keep your strength work short and specific and built around your miles, not some bodybuilding routine. Two 45-minute sessions a week is usually all it takes to feel a difference.

Will strength work eat into my training time?

No. Two 45-minute sessions a week is the sweet spot, and I program it around your key runs and rides so it supports your training. When you're deep in a race build, we drop to one session to maintain.

Can strength training really fix my injuries?

A lot of endurance injuries (IT band, runner's knee, plantar fasciitis) come back to weakness and imbalance. When you build the strength, the durability tends to follow. It's the most useful thing most of us skip.

Do you coach online, or only in person?

Both. You can train with me in person at my private studio in Arlington, or work with me online from anywhere with remote programming, fueling, and regular check-ins.

Do you only work with endurance athletes?

Not at all. A lot of who I see in person are everyday adults, often in their 40s, 50s, and up, who want to get stronger, move well, and feel more confident for the long haul. I also love coaching youth and high-school athletes. The online side is where I focus more on runners and cyclists.

What does the fueling coaching cover?

I'm a certified nutritionist and I race ultras, so I coach the fueling a lot of run coaches don't get into. Carbs, sodium, hydration, and a real race-day plan, so you stop guessing and feel good late in the day.

What are your qualifications?

I have a B.S. in Kinesiology from William & Mary, I'm an NASM Certified Personal Trainer and a Mac Nutrition Certified Nutritionist, and I've been training people for 15+ years. On the racing side I've qualified for Ironman 70.3 Worlds, won my age group at Unbound 200, and I'm training for the Moab 240 this fall.

What happens on the free intro call?

It's just a relaxed chat about your goals and what's gotten in the way so far. I'm a pretty relational person, so I really want to understand where you're at. By the end you'll know how I'd build your training and fueling and whether in-person or online makes more sense. No pressure either way.
